Old Coach Road Repair Day

  • 10 Dec 2017
  • 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Lucy's Wood car park

Registration is closed

We are supporting the Cumbria TRF group who have set up a day of repairs to the eastern end of the Old Coach Road between Lucy's Wood car park and Mosedale Beck.

The plan is to clear the drainage gully that runs almost the length of this section of the Sphagnum Moss that has clogged up the drainage as well as clear the drainage pipes that pass under the lane surface. The last two parts to the day are to replace the gate at Mariel Bridge and to clear some of the drainage for the deeper puddles.

Geoff Wilson will be on hand to provide his expert knowledge for the day about all things upland lane repairs, drawing on his many years experience.

What's Needed?

  1. Plenty of volunteers, it's a long way between the two points and there is plenty of gully to clear.
  2. Hand tools, Can people please bring any of the following..
  3. shovels, pick-axes, mattocks, spades and some crow-bars

Matt Watson will be in charge of replacing the gate at Mariel Bridge as he was a farmer for many years and is very knowledgeable about these kind of things.

Tools will be transported along the route by a tractor/trailer and maybe some 4x4's and people can either walk/drive/ride to their bit.

Volunteers need to bring suitable clothing for both work and weather on the day and plenty to eat/drink, especially hot drinks.
